What is Camlock Fittings?
Camlock Fittings and gaskets are hose couplings that connect or disconnect pipe, tubing, or hose without tools. Cam and groove fittings, also known as camlock fittings, consist of a male adapter and a female coupler with handles or cam levers. The cam and groove gasket fits inside the female coupler and together they form a leakproof seal. Camlock fittings and gaskets are used with liquids, powders, or gases in food processing, agriculture, chemical, and manufacturing applications, etc.

How Does a Camlock Work?
The assembly consists of a male adapter and female coupler. To connect and disconnect:
Extend the cam-lever on the coupler outwards and put the male adapter into the female coupler
Close both cam lever at the same time until the two halves are coupled together
Close both cam-levers at the same time insures that the adapter is pulled down consistently onto the seal making a leak proof assembly for the safe transfer of liquids.
Reverse the process to disconnect the fitting.
How To Measure The Dimensions of Camlock Fittings?
Measuring a metal camlock fitting is easy. For instance, if the hose tail, male or female thread is 2” then the camlock coupling would be known as a 2” camlock fittings.
Polypropylene and nylon camlock fittings is slightly different. There is no international standard and different manufacturers have different head sizes. In the 1/2” size, the body is actually ¾” but its the thread (or hose tail) that is ½”. There are also some anomalies in the 1 1/4” sized systems.
With most camlock fittings, measure the Outside Diameter (OD) of the male adapter head or the Inside Diameter (ID) of the female coupler. This will identify the size of camlock fitting.
Are Camlocks fittings Interchangable?
Between different manufacturers, camlock fittings are interchangeable with the exception of 1/2”, 5” and 8”. The A-A-59326A Mil Standard does not apply to 5” and 8” camlock fittings due to the presence of two versions of camlock fittings in today’s market.

How Do I Choose The Right Camlock Fitting?
When specifying a camlock fitting, there are seven fields of information required.

Cam and groove gaskets are put in the female coupler, the pressure of the fitting pushes against the gasket to create a tight seal.
EPDM Camlock fitting Gaskets
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) Camlock fitting gaskets provide ozone resistance, it has good chemical and temperature resistance, but poor resistance to petroleum fluids.
